My Bucket List
Even though I decided to pants my first novel ever, I’m really a plotter by nature. I like to have a plan. I like to think it’s one of the things that makes me a good engineer. It’s part of who I am.
So I have no idea why I haven’t created a plan for my life until now. As Stephen Covey wrote in the 7 Habits of Highly Effecitve People:
Begin with the end in mind.
I’m still working my way through the book, but so much of it has made sense so far that I decided to stop and take some time to create this list as sort of a blueprint going forward.
This Isn’t A 7 Habits Life Plan
Habit number 2 details a way to create a life plan that will help guide decisions in your personal, spiritual, and professional life.
This isn’t this plan. Not exactly, anyway.
Stephen Covey suggests a specific way to develop that plan. I’m still working out the details myself, and I like how it’s turning out so far.
What this is is a shortened version of a life plan in the form of a bucket list. Frankly I’m stealing the idea from two of the blogs I frequent.
Steve at Nerd Fitness has his Epic Quest of Awesome and Joel at Impossible HQ has his impossible list.
In the vein of those two lists, this is more than a simple bucket list. This is a roadmap. This is a list of goals that I fully intend to hit, with the idea that focusing on the goal will guide me down the road to hitting it.
So, without further ado, the bucket list:
Professional
- Build a successful website
- 10 subscribers
- 100 subscribers
- 1,000 subscribers
- 10,000 subscribers
- Publish a book
- Write a successful book
- Get a 5 star Amazon review (without buying it)
- Sell 100 copies
- Develop a full time writing career
- Win National Novel Writing Month
Personal
- Lose 10 lbs
- Lose 25 lbs
- Lose 50 lbs
- Lose 100 lbs (yes, I can safely lose that much)
Travel
- Play golf at Pebble Beach
- Play golf at St. Andrews
- Visit the Scottish Highlands
- Visit the Irish Coast
- Visit the Louvre
It May Sound Boring…
…but every plan I’ve ever put together has to start somewhere. Consider this Bucket List 1.0. I’m sure there will be some hefty revisions in the future as I flesh out my plan going forward.
Any suggestions?
